MTG Arena crashing on Mac
First time playing on a Mac, the client crashes after every match I complete, then crashes on the next restart.

For some reason doesn't seem to happen in brawl, but only drafts. Happens A LOT. Opened multiple tickets and received some refunds but zero progress. Draft is unplayable.
Big Sur, 2021 iMac (pre M1 chip), fully updated, rebooted, followed all of their suggestions.

OSX and iOS versions are currently unplayable. I have lost 2 draft games because of this. I think this is super unfair and I wish to have my draft token refunded.

I got the same problem as others here. It first it went great I got no problems, but after the last update a couple of days ago, I got glitches and the game crashes. Usually after that I need to restard my Mac because otherwise the glitches still gonna be there. Two times my MacBook even crashed. I would love to continue to play MTGA on my Mac. Since I got no other computer.

As of the latest update, this has gotten much worse. I'm lucky to get 2 games in before it crashes. It would be great to hear from someone at MTG Arena about efforts being made to fix this as it is basically unplayable and not worth spending time and especially money on right now.

This same thing happens to me! Super frustrated; lost a tournament because of it.

Update: Works great with Nvidia GeForce Now, so that's what I use now. Still unusable on Mac though.
Same here, freezing constantly, sound often continues but the image freezes. Often when card graphics / animations happen after they’re played, but also other times like the vs screen. Lost many games this way with no recourse, some with the win on the board. Fan runs hot and computer shuts down sometimes. I only ever play with MTGA running and nothing else on a new MacBook Pro 2019. These problem never happen to this computer except during MTGA. Seemed to be worse when using an external monitor and larger screen settings, so now I play on a small resolution and screen size and with graphics on low. Wish I could turn off card animations. I often restart my computer between matches with the hope that that will help reduce freezes/crashes.
Very frustrating and embarrassing for Wizards, especially with no response on here. Nobody with a Mac should spend money on this game. I work in tech and I know some crashes in software are unavoidable. But this is table stakes stuff. I hope you apologize and fix these problems.

Same issues here. New iMac, 2021 running big sur. Random crashes which require a reboot. Only happens when I am playing on Arena. Most of the time the problem happens as I am attempting to play a card from my hand to the BF. Beachball appears and I can hear the game proceeding in the background. Control tab and video is all messed up.

Dear Wizards_MS12#13154,
Like the people in this threat I also experience the same issues. Graphical glitches random mid game witch cause my system to crash. BUT there is a difference.
Ive been playing MTGA for a few years now. Ive encountered these problems only with my new iMac 27" 2020 model and no issues with my previous iMac late 2013 27" model ( with I sold).
The second part is that I started playing on my new machine with MacOs Catalana. This resulted in that some graphical glitches but not in a way that it would break the game. You see the glitches almost break up and then the game goes on and its still fine and playable.
I updates to macOS Big Sur and the same problem appears BUT the whole system seems to crash with all the glitches like some ppl are describing below. Graphical crashes random @ ingame battle.. So I've take another step.
I installed parallels for a VM Windows 10. I played the game and the same random particle glitches happend followed with a crash of the system.
Afterwards I tried bootcamp with native windows 10. < quess what; No problems.
So with all this in mind This tells me that this game is not optimized to run on newer Apple devices with AMD GPU specifications and MacOS BigSur < AMD with windows and the appropriate drivers has no problems on the same system. Because my first setup ( late 2013 model iMac) was a Geforce NVIDIA setup with no problems whatsoever.
So if there are more ppl with the same problems, Please do something and give us some reaction that these problems are looked at.
If not maybe some ppl with influence should post this on social media that a game cannot even run on a 3000 dollar system?

Hi Wizards_MS12#13154.
I have reviewed your Technical Troubleshooting articles, checked my computer's capabilities (they're fine for MGT Arena), tried clean reboots (multiple times), reinstalling Arena (multiple times), and my graphics settings are already at Low. I've tried all of the above in conjunction with one another and after each update to Arena. None of it has done a whit of good.
It is, of course, possible that I've not come across the Technical Troubleshooting article you'd recommend. If you want to point me at a specific article that addresses the issues I seem to be having, I'd be happy to take a look and give that advice a go.
Thanks.

I have also experience the same issues since at least the Zendikar update on my new iMac. I experience the same graphical glitches as linkdiddy#28023. It is particularly problematic in limited environments, not usally getting through even a single game before requiring a complete reboot of the computer. If the game hasn't lagged to the point of a loss, it will most likely freeze up immediately. It makes playing limited formats basically impossible. I'm trying again today, but to no avail.
I am the Games Manager of a store and run our Magic events using Arena and EventLink. I would love to see this issue resolved. If someone at Wizards wants to reach out to me for live troubleshooting I believe you can find our info as my user ID should be linked to our store and I'd be more than happy to help.

I have also been having the exact same issue described by linkdiddy#28023 for at least the past couple of months on my MacBook Pro (late 2019 model), frequently requiring OS reboot. The game generally seizes up when a card or ability goes on the stack, it seems. Many turns lost due to the game freezing and crashing the system, as a result losing the game, which is unacceptable when entering drafts that cost in game currency bought with real money. Although I love Magic, I’m starting to feel hopeless about the state of MTGA...

Game started frequently freezing in the middle of a match after the Kaldheim update. It freezes my entire OS, and it takes a few seconds to start responding again. In a couple of cases, I had to reboot my system. I'm on a maxed out MacBook Pro with the latest version of macOS (Big Sur). I'm experiencing exactly what linkdiddy#28023 described. I'm a mobile game developer with 8 years of experience in Unity, so feel free to ping me for anything you might need to get this fixed!

Been experiencing the same thing on my new IMac.. With it being right out of the box and upgraded to the max, it’s hard to believe it’s my machine that’s the issue.. pretty disappointing to lose $20 trying to play the Kaldeim sealed event and it crashed 3 out of 3 times mid-match to take the L’s.. Back to COD it is... not going to waste my time/money on games that don’t work.

Game freezes an random during matchplay for me. Graphical glitches appear and if I do not force quit the game in time it freezes the entire computer and I have to physically reboot it. Graphical anomalies include:
- Polygons flitting across the entire gameplay window
- Parts of the gameplay window blacking out
- One full diagonal half of the gameplay window become transparent and revealing the contents behind it
- Other glitches that are too difficult to explainThese problems occur *only* with MTGA and only during matchplay. Sounds continues to play even while the game has frozen. The problems appear to related to the graphics system in the game.
I have had multiple matches timeout on me with multiple turns lost to inaction due to these glitches. Over and over I lose matches without even being able to play them even as I am spending money to play the game.
I have received the same "we can't do anything about it" response over email.
Not acceptable.

@Wizards_MS12#13154 I already submitted for troubleshooting advice, you told me that there's nothing you can do and to post my concern here. I've never had any problems before the most recent update, I believe that the problem is with your client and not with my system. Please work to fix this

Ever since the most recent update, I haven't been able to successfully launch my Arena client on Mac. I tried reinstalling, launching with no other programs running, and launching in Safe Mode. I've never had problems with the client before, is anyone else experiencing issues on Mac?
