Dealing perfect lethal damage to Teferi, Master of Time while the +1 is on the stack leaves it at 1 loyalty
My opponent's Teferi, Master of Time had 3 loyalty. I had a Sanctum of Shattered Heights, which would deal 3 damage (I had 2 other sanctums in play) to creature/planeswalker.
When my opponent activated Teferi's +1 ability, I should be able to deal 3 damage while the ability activation is on the stack and kill Teferi. However, it would leave Teferi alive at 1 loyalty.
Am I misreading the rules? Teferi should not gain that 1 loyalty until the ability resolves. If I kill Teferi before the ability resolves, Teferi should die but still get the +1 draw, discard 1 card effect.

This is working as intended. Loyalty gets added (or removed) before the ability resolves.
To be more specific, rule 606.4: The cost to activate a loyalty ability of a permanent is to put on or remove from that permanent a certain number of loyalty counters, as shown by the loyalty symbol in the ability’s cost. This cost may be modified by other effects.Because it counts as a cost, it is deducted or added before the ability triggers.
