Scale the heights
Same deal as others have suggested, when targetting a creature with Scale the Heights, if the unit is bounced, killed or exiled, the other two effects (life gain and draw) does not occur, despite them not being bound to the add +1 counter effect.

Same thing has been happening with me. And drawing a card and gaining life don't need a legal target, at least according to the card.

Although those effects aren't bound to the token, they are bound to the card "Scale the heights".
Since scale the heights will have no legal target, it will never resolve, thus none of the effects happen.Hope this helps! For any other questions please comments. If this helped resolve the ticket please consider closing it.
