Algorithm Improvement
I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.

Why can't the deck be more shuffled. There are times when you just sit there and draw nothing but land. And when you know you have enough land in the deck you don't draw any. What the ****? I rund 80 card decks and 35 is gaining land but there is times I don't even see any or to much.

I Add 4 extra Mana to my 60 card deck, making my Deck size 64. Ever since I have never been mana screwed or mana flooded since. Try it and tell me your results.

I came to Arena from MTGO to check it out in a bet that it couldnt possibly be this bad and I was wrong, its worse. You would have to be new and entirely unaware of this games (MTG) mechanics for it to even be remotely entertaining to you.My question is how are they pulling this off so successfully, there must be a lot of dumb people out there.Any vetted player knows immediately the manipulation.Within every 4 cards usually is a card you already have if you dont have multiples of it already in your hand or in play. This is not MTG by any standard and it functions like its a cheap knockoff Walmartesque app of the real game. They would never pull this **** on MTGO without dire consequences and they shouldnt be getting away with it using this HOOK HABIT HOBBY app.

People have been reporting this for what, 5 years since it came out? They just say it's fine and ignore it. I bet they rarely look at reports as well, which is why they don't tell you if they ban someone. They probably don't even look or check for roping.

Wizards don't care. Their profit margin is still increasing every year, despite standard becoming unfun to play, and despite an obviously flawed shuffling system. People want to enjoy the Magic they used to love, so they'll keep playing for those 1/10 games that are actually enjoyable and not ruined by aggro control and having 3 cards of the same card every game. And honestly, it's probably bad on purpose. Think about it, the way it is now, they can control what goes into your hand, so if you are winning or reaching your daily quota, they will start making you lose, so then you play more and maybe spend money to get better cards. I can't confirm it, but I've heard a few people say a lot of these issues disappeared after they started spending money, but of course, that could always just be coincidence or bias.

The game is totally rigged on the draw. You don't see lands for turns and turns or you draw lands for turns and turns. No person who picks up Magic cards every weekend encounters certain events over a period of years and they occur several times a day.

As I understand it, matchmaking it so some degree based on your deck strength, not just your MMR. While I agree with separating MMR somewhat by deck, because some decks are fundamentally stronger, the current system results in you being matched with the same opponents repeatedly because the same kinds of decks all have the same rated deck strength. My mono blue always plays agains dinos and mono red. My Selesnya enchantments always plays Selesnya enchantments mirrors, etc. This gets incredibly repetitive and unfun.

Every time I play a new deck in ranked I win 1 game then matchmaking for the next 5 games pits me against the same type of deck. I can’t progress in rank due to the matchmaking process you guys says fair. Not saying I need to win every game but this **** seems to be happening a lot ( since rank reset) so thanks guys for the negative experience

The problem is that there's no such thing as "random" in programming because you have to tell the program what to do on some level.

I have reported this numerous times now and it should be a relatively easy fix. In best of one, the matchmaker goes on long streaks of assigning me to the draw (or play) which, by normal distribution in statistics, are highly improbable at best.
Every time WotC gets clever with matchmaking, hand smoothing, and so on, they just break the game. It's a card game. It's random. Make it that way.

Deck manipulator, check how low my land count is (10 basic). I drew only duplicate cards multiple times and got 8 out of my ten basic lands plus more, again mostly in a row. The reason they picked the basic lands is most likely because the fetch ones shuffle the deck. Most of this started occurring when opponent hit 3 life. I drew impossible odds for several turns at this point so he could win. This is a very common thing I will see playing recently.

Why tf do I get paired against mythic players when I am low plat, have never been mythic and will never be mythic. This game costs money, so I don't enjoy being paired up against grinders for no good reason.

****** canned response from MTG customer support:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast Customer Service. I'm very sorry to hear that you've had some undesirable results while playing MTG Arena. I assure you that our algorithms, including matchmaking, the shuffler, coin flips, and others, have been tested at length and are working as intended. All players are on the same playing field using the exact same rules.I do, however, want to thank you for your concern and feedback on this matter. It is particularly important to our company that your voice is heard, and we will take it into consideration as we strive to build a better experience for you.
I’ll be glad to help you further if you have any other questions or concerns! -

I reported this yesterday as well but the matchmaking is consistently putting me on the Draw for multiple games. This is too consistent to be random chance and it stinks. Please stop messing with the randomness in the game. Every time you do, the lack of sophistication shows. Just don't. Make card draws random. Making paring random within ranks. Make the play/draw be random.
Just stop stacking the deck and the game. Nobody likes it. And the asking if someone enjoyed or didn't enjoy a game after doesn't give any meaningful feedback about what was or wasn't enjoyable. It can't go from that general to something as specific as the shuffler.
We play a card game. We grew up with card games. We understand they are random. Let them be random!

This happens far too frequently. When winning the matchmaker begins throwing games by putting me perpetually on the draw. After four games in a row on the Draw, I was on the Play once. Then it was on the Draw two more times after that. These are not normal distributions and smells of cheating.
Please stop stacking the decks, matchmaking on deck type, and skewing results by throwing games by making players on the Draw. If any of these practices happened in a live event, the cheating scandal would put out such a stink WptC would be in perpetual fire fighting mode. Yet this is standard on arena. Why?
Is it really that difficult to understand that we are playing a card game where cards are randomized and who goes firs is random as well? Do your really need to scam the players?
