Alchemy has made Arena an uninteresting experience.
I play a lot of paper magic and recently got into arena to play with people during the pandemic and have found it to be a good way to teach people how to play paper magic.
Now with Alchemy it has become and entirely different game in many ways. Mechanics and keywords are not intuitive. If you want to play paper magic and arena with similar decks you have to memorize minute nerfs and changes.
I am very worried about the future of magic that they decide to envelope the core experience of Arena with online only type cards. This further divides the player base and makes it harder for LGS's to hold and fill standard/historic games and tournaments.
I'm worried that wizards is going to focus on ephemeral gains at the cost of the format as a whole. I do hope that MTGO is left as a paper analogue if this is the direction Arena is going in, but I don't thing hasbro cares about anything beyond quarterly profits.
I will no longer be playing magic through Arena because of these concerns.
