Priority skipped for instant response precombat against Soldiers
Opponent had Myrel, and 2 Yotian Frontliner on board. I have four lands able to tap for black and blue mana. I have in hand a cut down and Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter. I have mana available untapped to cast both spells. I have a Surge Engine on field. It has been activated once to have the Unblockable skill.
Opponent cast a Valiant Veteran and then a Siege Veteran. I did not get priority when casting Siege veteran to respond with a cut down on the Valiant Veteran. The opponent moved to combat and I had no priority to cast the Cut Down or the Battlethopter. The game seemed to move quickly through the sequence. I was able to declare a blocker with the Surge Engine, but I was not able to cast any spells. If I missed on the board the power change of the soldiers, I still should have had a window to cast the Battlethopter or Cut Down on my own Surge Engine.

I just had the same thing happen with a Greasefang trigger, where there was no move to combat for effects.
