brutal cathar and okiba reckoners rage
Hi there, just ran into a little bit of a snag in my last game.
I was playing against a black deck, i was playing white/blue soldiers. The Opponent had cast Okiba Reckoners raid(ORR) first turn. Once ORR had transformed into its Nezumi Road Captain i cast Brutal Cathar and exiled the creature.
Here is where things get a little wonky and im not sure if the game is supposed to work this way or not.
My Opponent directly killed my Brutal Cathar with a spell, but instead of the token creature going back to the battlefield, the Historic Spell was recast with no counters and got to go through all of its iterations once more.
Thats not a huge deal with something as weak as ORR, but what about something as powerful as Michiko's reign of truth, or something even more powerful.
I personally cant imagine thats how the game was originally supposed to work.
Thanks for your time.

Modal double faced cards (MDFC) always operate based on their main (top) face when they are not on the battlefield. For example, if you were instructed to put a MDFC onto the battlefield, you cannot select what side it ETBs, it will always ETB as its top side.
When the Brutal Cathar exiled the flipped ORR, it changed zones to exile and no longer functions as the flipped card. Once it was returned from exile to the battlefield, it returned as the face side, the saga. This is the correct result of a MDFC changing from exile to the battlefield.
The only effect which can permanently modify a card through zone changes is perpetual.

When a card moves zones, it doesn’t retain any of its gained characteristics it had in the battlefield such as counters or whether it was transformed. When your Brutal Cathar died, it was returned to the battlefield as the printed card shows, a Saga
