Mastery Pass Should Not Expire
I don't spend money on this game. I imagine many players like myself are looking for excuses to spend money on this game that we like, but I really think that the relatively low value of the things in the store is getting in the way of this. The mastery pass being able to expire makes its value to players like me incredibly low.
I play somewhat casually, but I find myself not able to max out the free mastery track before the set expires. Why then would I ever pay my hard-earned money on rewards that I'm not going to see?
I propose that once purchased, the mastery track be added to a collection of tracks that you can work on even beyond the time that it is initially available.
Some ideas on how to not make this exploitable:
- Make it so you have to "select" which track you want to devote your exp to, so you can't just save up 5 season passes and level them all at once
- If it's that important that we're incentivized to work on the passes as they come out, you can reduce exp contribution to older passes. The pass also being only available for purchase at a specific time makes sense here as well.
- Eliminate the repeating card reward for level 71+ when the pass is no longer current.
Benefits of this:
- Casual players will spend more money on passes because they don't feel like its a waste.
- Players who binge the game and take long breaks (I imagine there are a lot of these) may continue to spend money on passes, even if they're not actively playing at that time. They will also have something to do if they come back and binge through the current mastery set, which will keep them playing during those periods.
- It's a good-faith move that might draw new players to the game.
