Mythweaver Pok TOO BUSTED in Brawl: here's why
I've heard and read many players talking about mythweaver Pok, especially regarding the infinite loop with Ashaya. To me it has already happened 3 times in two days, and I barely play Brawl.
They're all right. But the real strength of the creature is not only in this broken interaction which let player draw matches which they almost already lost.
IMHO, the REAL issues are these:
- being a one-card-deck: there are no particular restrictions, you just have to play Mythweaver as your Commander, a bunch of good lands, some ramp and the strongest green cards in the format. End of the story.
- being able to basically avoid the Commander Tax (as previously said without any particular deckbuilding strategy, it does it by itself)
- it circumvents board wipes and "target nonland" removals by constantly duplicating manlands, which are very hard to answer in Brawl
- As forementioned, constantly duplicating nonbasic lands FOR FREE goes against the spirit of Brawl/Commander where you can only play 1x of a card, especially lands which are the engine of all decks.
- There's not much land disruption in the format (some decks just can't have it), so it really goes unchecked in some matches.
So, in the end, I suggest to consider one of the following:
- Banning Mythweaver as a Commander (raw and direct)
- Since it's a digital-only card, rework the card like this: "Whenever one or more nontoken BASIC lands enter the battlefield under your control, for each of them, conjure a duplicate of it onto the battlefield. This ability triggers only once each turn", so it's still going to be busted, but not in a dirty and unfun way.
- Make it 6 or 7 mana, so it doesn't feel as much oppressive with explosive starts that let the deck go beyond reach.
- Keep it like this and make people quit the game with frustration and despair. Those remaining are going to play 50% Ponza/ 50% Mythweaver (of course I'm kidding).
