The Ozalith
Had an opponent’s The Ozalith trigger and it targeted my Heartflame Dualist, which had 4 +1/+1 counters on it, and it removed the counters and moved them to their creature.

The Ozolith can store all kinds of counters. In this specific case, those counters were most likely -1/-1 counters. +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters annihilate each other as a state based action. Your opponent knew this, hence why he targeted your creature to make the counters disappear.
As for his creature getting counters, more information is needed.
