leyline of the void and gruff triplets
just finished a game where I had leyline of the void in play and the first time I killed a gruff triplet the counters moved ( they were defending ) , the second time they didnt transfer counters ( they were attacking ) both times it was to combat damage.

That's because your Leyline specifically cares about CARDS. So killing a Triple token will send it to the graveyard and trigger the ability. Killing the nontoken Triplet will exile it instead and thus not trigger it.
