MTG Area First Strike
In MTG Area when Glissa Sunslayer attacked with overprotect applied she was a 6/6. She's able to hit 3 creatures I blocked with and kill them all due to first strike and deathtouch. However, when the trample damage was applied instead of it being 3 damage I was delt 6 damage which conflicts with how first strike works. As it treated the damage against my health as a new damage instance.

Maybe your opponent also had a Bloodletter of Aclazotz under their control?
