Floating mana disappeared
While in a game I tapped a land to have 1 floating mana then went through combat without using the mana however in my second main phase the floating mana was gone.

Of course. A player's mana pool empties with the end of EACH STEP AND PHASE. Unless you run cards that specifically keep mana around through the steps and phases, it is either used in the current step/phase, or it is gone. You cannot float mana through different steps/phases without the help of the few cards that allow for it.
