Adelbert Steiner died after removing his equipment
The situation is that
”Adelbert Steiner” is equipped with the equipment "White Mage's Staff" and "Dragoon's Lance", and the "Dragoon's Lance" is then re-equipped to "Cloudbound Moogle". This causes "Adelbert Steiner" to be treated as having died.
There is no mention of an effect of death when removing or changing equipment for "Adelbert Steiner", "White Mage's Staff", or "Dragoon's Lance", so I think this is a bug. Please check.

Moving Draggon's Lance, which only grants a power boost, should not result in Adelbert's death. However, moving the White Mage's Staff will remove the +1 bonus to toughness. If Adelbert was just 1 point of damage short of lethal, THAT will kill him as the -1 to his toughness makes the marked damage still on him lethal. So, the most likely reason your Adlebert died is, that you removed the Staff from him while he had almost lethal damage marked.
