Instant Ability Not Activating
Black Sun Twighlight's ability is not fully activating. It will deal the damage, but won't give you the option to return a card from the graveyard when you use 5+ mana for x. This has happened multiples times now.

5 mana is not enough. X has to be 5 or greater for that additional effect, meaning you have to cast the spell for X=5 or more, which usually costs 6+ mana.
