Lightning Strike (Ixalan)
Why does Lightning Strike (Ixalan) have the wrong card text?
I understand there are many versions of Lightning Strike in MTG, but this kind of detail matters — the original card only says "Lightning Strike deals 3 damage to target creature or player." not "any target."
In official tabletop Standard play, this card would be illegal because of its printed text.
People should craft newer versions of this card rather than use older versions of it wrong text.

It does not matter what's printed on the card. Except the name. Because all cards with the same name are treated as having their Oracle text printed on them.
As for why the old version says "target creature or player", that's because during Ixalan the old planeswalker damage redirection rule still existed. When it got abolished, almost all cards that had "target creature or player" were errataed to read "any target".
And no, no card becomes illegal to play just because the printed text does not equal the Oracle text.
