egrix / damning caress interaction
I had three villians in play, and cast Damning Caress off the top of my library at 5 life using Egrix the Bile Bulwark's ability. Instead of reducing the cost by 2, it cost me 5 life to cast and killed me. Was this a bug? It ended my current draft with this loss, and I was confused that my 3 villian cards didn't apply the discount.

Cost reductions do not change the mana value of a card. The mana value is solely derived from the mana cost, converted into a number. Damning Caress's mana value is 5, everywhere, at all times.
