Mutate reconfigure
I mutated a chittering harvester on to an Inchblade companion, i then proceeded to reconfigure the mutated Companion to my other creatures, but it wouldnt do it. It would allow me to pay for the ability and target, but it would resolve with my mana tapped (as if it had gone through) and my mutated Companion still on the field by itself

If you mutated the Chittering Harvester above the Companion, then it is no longer an artifact - equipment. And so it cannot get attached to anything. Only auras and equipment can get attached.
