FWIW, I had a similar problem today on a M1 mini. After the maintenance updates the app became unplayably slow. I deleted things, restarted, reinstalled several times and still no success. Then I deleted the 6+GB of art assets, reinstalled and the game is back to normal.
For the techies among you, the app when running slow was generating enormous player.log files with endless repetitions of things like
ALT_Card.Parts.CountersPart
JsonReaderException: Unterminated string. Expected delimiter: ". Path '['ALT_Card.EtbSFX'].Nodes[950].NodeId', line 105279, position 12......
So, the moral of the story may be to delete every single trace and reinstall.
