Alchemy 'balance' is a poor substitute for actually balancing the game before cards are printed (heard of playtesting?) - printing the most intense run of over powered and banned cards in Magic's history (Oko, Golos, field, lurus etc) should have been a wake-up call to curb the power creep and bannable format breakers, and to prioritise format health over money, but instead we now have alchemy as a pathetic and clumsy post-printing 'fix' strategy which undermines the paper-based traditions of the game. Chasing MTGA digital play as the front of the game is sure to find success short term, but this game's incredible longevity has always relied on steady balance and care that was once reserved for paper. I miss 3 block sets, when master sets were not thinly veiled commander sets, when every set didn't have a card spiking into vintage or inorganically pandering to commander -Magic has sold out.
