An error occurred while saving the comment Ykroon#06009 commentedIt's not against the rules. In fact there is even a companion in the new set that requires at least 20 extra cards in your deck. But as stated in another comment, it is generally not a good idea.
To add to this.. I am experiencing the same problem.
I am wondering whether this is a "full control" issue(for lack of a better name), meaning that unless you have turned on "full control" mode using the <ctrl> key, the opportunity to act is passed over. I haven't had the opportunity to test this theory yet.
Just as a relevant example:
We reach the beginning of the end step of a player(A) who has Braids, Arisen Nightmare(BAN) in play as their only permanent other than lands. Their opponent(B) is at 2 life and only has lands in play. B is holding an instant that will give them 1 life. B is never given the opportunity(that is, receives priority) to cast their instant in the end step. If A decides to sacrifice BAN to itself B loses.
