    Valkmira, Protector's Shield doesn't prevent "loss of life" effects, only "damage."

    The text on those 2 cards say the opponent loses life, so it doesn't get blocked.

    I hope this helps you to stop suffering embarrassing losses to Bastion of Remembrance.
