    this has been happening to me as well, with Flip The Switch, and Syncopate. I get the weird, out-of-place "are you sure you want to target [[card name]]" that usually happens when you make a illegal or sub-optimal target, and when the counter spell resolved, the opponent's spell resolved normally and my counter spell was sent to graveyard...
    vital bug! please fix!

    the spell was countered, but it was still cast, so the "whenever you cast a spell" clause is still triggered even though it was countered AFTER being cast. the spell was cast, it simply didn't resolve.
