    I had a similar interaction. I played Three steps ahead to counter Sire of Seven Deaths. The Sire was cast from a Planetarium of Wan Shi Tong trigger, which shouldnt prevent countering. There was nothing on the board that would effect countering the spell. The game threw a warning that I would have to pay the ward cost, which I would have paid for, but instead of allowing me the choice the ward instantly countered my three steps ahead.
