This is a really annoying bug for Commander players! Having the Life Tracker display "0" by default instead of the selected 40 definitely disrupts the flow of the game setup. Thanks for bringing this up and adding screenshots, hopefully, the dev team fixes this UI glitch in the next update. After spending time reporting bugs, building decks, or playing intense matches, it's always great to just take a quick mental break to recharge.
