    "Dies" means "moves from the battlefield to the graveyard", so this is correct behavior.

    This is actually correct behavior according to the rules of Magic. Portent Tracker's ability isn't a mana ability, so you have to use it before a spell or ability that asks for mana resolves.

    This can also happen when it's exiled by Jacob Hauken / Hauken's Insight.

    Just happened to me as I was tapping lands in my end step. Couldn't access the menu, but alt-F4 worked.
