   Legendary cards have extra detailing at the bottom. They also have a name rather than creator description and the background round the name text is a different colour.
   I agree, until I found this out it was very annoying.

   I've only tried crafting twice. Each time it was for the Ragebeast (red card) which requires 120 Mox Rubies. I didn't have the other requirements so it had to be via the gems. I took more notice the second time. After clicking on the craft using gems it gave an unknown error message and then went to the rewards screen. It hung here, stealing my gems but not giving me the creature card.
