    I encountered this same bug with Klement, Novice Acolyte and Lurrus of the Dream-Den. For what it's worth, it seems to me like both the base commander and the specialized version of the color you've chosen have to satisfy the companion's requirement. This is consistent with your examples as well as what I observed:

    - "Lae'zel, Githyanki Warrior" has an activated ability, but "Lae'zel, Wrathful Warrior" does not, so Zirda's requirement is not met.
    - "Sarevok the Usurper" and "Sarevok, Mighty Usurper" are both creatures, so Umori is satisfied.
    - "Klement, Novice Acolyte" is below 2 mana value, but "Klement, Death Acolyte" is not, so Lurrus can't be a companion.

    I don't know if this is intended behavior. Seems like a bug to me.
