    I can actually explain this, although neither card explicitly say theres a limit, the rules as written basically boil down to "you cannot attempt to pay with more life than you have, even if you have a replacement effect" so if your life is at 10 you can only max out life paid at 10. Another example is bolas' citadel, if you dont have enough life to cast a card from the top you cant cast it even if you have ashiok
