i have the same issue on an M1 iPad Air. Scrolling horizontally through permanents is extremely laggy, jumpy (usually jumps back!) and will frequently reset the position to where it started
i much prefer the desktop approach where it tries to put stuff into multiple rows. As i am playong on a tablet, that should be possible screen resl estate wise
this also can’t really be a performance problem, as the M1 chip can also run in laptops
