Back in the late 90's, I built a mono blue control deck that beat my friend playing a world champion deck he had purchased. Not saying that I may not have had an amazing draw or that he may have played a complex deck incorrectly, but as a newer player at the time I was proud of that. Shortly thereafter, we all stopped playing denial because it just bores anyone playing against it. Playing my blue denial deck even bored me quite a bit. Having the occasional counterspell is great for the game just as spot removal is. When the entire deck concept is to not allow your opponent to play, it sucks. It goes the same for hand destruction, one sided board wipe and cards that completely shut down an archetype. The construct I despise most is the instant win card. An aggro deck will outpace a counter deck. A counter deck will shut down a combo deck. It keeps going like rock, paper, scissors. Only a counter spell will stop an instant win card. Unfortunately, they are usually played in the same deck. For standard, WOTC would just need to monitor how many counters are produced per set (good luck). Every other format is just eternally screwed.

I think this should be for all formats. If I could get away from Omniscience, Orcish Bowmaster, Thassa, Goblin Charbelcher, red/white energy, heist, blue denial and turn 1 discard spells, I would enjoy the game so much more. Wouldn't be upset if the One Ring went away as well.

Are you playing a broken or extremely salty deck? If not, it could be the shuffler is so bad it makes a deck unplayable after the mulligans it takes to get a decent hand. I have had plenty of games that went 4 mulligans then concede due to bad draws.

I think the better answer is to fix the shuffler. Adding a free mulligan just leads to broken combo decks getting an extra chance to find it.

That is how the shuffler is designed. If I need a land, I won't draw one for the next 5+ turns. If I need a spell, I will only draw land for the next 5 turns. I have one 2 color deck with 20 lands, made to function on 2-3 lands. Minimum one of each color is needed. I had to switch most of my lands to dualish lands to stop getting color screwed. Now I run 12 two color lands with 4 each of my two basics. I still run into issues where I only get 2 or 3 of one color land on the draw. I think I have worn out my mulligan button.
