Anyways, getting duplicates in your ICRs feels Bad and Cheap. Just like in the previous thread merged into this one, I will continue posting about this as it comes up. So, without any further ado:Another Week, Another Midweek Madness, another Duplicate Card on the ICRs

An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedImagine playing an Artisan Event, a format specially well-suited for players with small collections, and getting a duplicate among your rewards. That must really sting.
ICRs should be duplicate protected.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedI just had the most wonderful experience playing Midweek Magic. Every reward I got was a card I didn't own.
This is certainly the way it should be.ICRs should be duplicate protected.

An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedThe Midweek Madness event for the release of Baldurs Alchemic Horizon Forbidden West was really spot on, free Phantom Drafts are a great way to get people into the new format.
However, I didn't have much chance to play the previous block, and as a result I have very few cards from SNC. Imagine my dismay when I got rewarded... Two cards from Crimson Vow D:ICRs should be duplicate protected.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedHello! I'm back, sorry for the lapse in communication but I was moving to a different continent, had to buy new furniture from scratch and got COVID, among other things.
Good to see some things don't change though. Seriously, this Midweek "Madness" is "Just Play Alchemy LOL"? Not even "Build Whatever and Try it Out", I have to own the cards? AND the Rewards are not Alchemy Cards? AND AND the ICRs are still not duplicate protected?
C'mon Wezzerds... This is almost a new low. At the very least, ICRs should be Duplicate Protected.

ICRs should be Duplicate Protected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedThis week's Midweek Madness feels particularly grating...
Play with only the newest cards! Receive duplicates in return!ICRs should be Duplicate Protected
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedSomething very strange happened today, after my second win in the As Written event I got a face down card rather than the usual "New" cards we get for each win. When I clicked on the face-down card it flipped and turned out to be a Vorinclex, a Mythic I didn't have a full playset of.
I have not been able to reproduce this behavior, but I think it ought to be looked into.Or, you know, you could make it so ICRs are Duplicate Protected.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedHaving the cards incorrectly displayed as new makes receiving duplicates sting just a little bit more.
But this wouldn't be a problem if ICRs were duplicate protected.
You can fix a bug and improve QOL at the same time!An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedGetting ICRs that are about to rotate out feels really bad.
ICRs should be duplicate protected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedToday's experiecne playing Midweek Madness was a beat for beat retelling of the Unrestricted Historic experience: Great format, very fun, with rewards completely disconnected from that experience.
At least I got a cool Japanese Cosmetic as a reward for the third win, that was really neat.I've also just realized there are no dates for any of my comments in this thread. Weird.
Anyways, ICRs should be Duplicate Protected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedGreat Event this week, got a lot of seasoned players like myself to flex on our deep collections and play old favorites with a new twist. I was even more stoked to receive a Mourag as one of my ICRs - A very Janky mythic, but one I didn't have a playset for! Unfortunately, my other ICR was a Skeletal Swarming, which stung a bit.
ICRs should be Duplicate Protected. Players should not feel punished for their investment into the game.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedHaving Midweek Madness be a Phantom Draft is a great idea. Allows new player to get a feel for the new format in a low-stakes environment that doesn't give any outstanding material rewards. I do worry a bit that an a new player can draft an unplayable pile and have no option to re-draft, but that would only be abused by others goldfishing for the most broken pile possible.
However, I'd be remis if I didn't point out that as soon as a new set was added to the game, my ICRs for the event were redundant copies of the next sets to rotate out. That just feels bad.
ICRs should be duplicate protected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedAnother Fun and Interesting Event, but still the ICRs awarded feel like a slap across the face.
If the idea is to have more players join the queue so that new players can get their matches in and get excited about playing, why slight the rest of the player base with Reckless Crews? There are more than enough quirky and niche cards in Arena. If it worries you that players will get too much of a return by giving Gems rather than Vault Progress, then expand the pool of rewards to Historic.
I'm not asking for Gems, I'm asking for Cards. That's what the Individual Card Rewards should be, right?ICRs should be duplicate protected.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedToday is another day of Mixed Feelings with Midweek Madness.
On one hand, the event is really fun, as I get to play with cards I don't have, and I even got an interesting build around as my first reward! But for my second reward I got a redundant copy of Long Rest, which felt a little like a slap on the face after my initial positive outlook. Why make a Historic Event and have the rewards be Standard Only?
Why not reward players with new cards for an event about trying out new cards?ICRs should be Duplicate Protected.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedCredit where Credit is due: Even though my first ICR for the Alchemy Slowdown Midweek Madness event was an umpteenth copy of Paladin Class, my second ICR was a copy of Jerren, Corrupted Bishop.
And I have to give you props, it was awesome to get a jank mythic as a reward for a silly, free to play event. I'm just exhultant that I won't have to spend Wildcards to have FUN, and can experiment with a niche mythic without husrting my posibilities of playing constructed.
So thank you. This was pretty great.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedToday while playing the painful RNG-Fiesta that is Momir Madness, I was rewarded for my dice-rolling efforts with a Graven Lore and Skeletal Swarming - Both of which I have full playsets of.
I understand the idea behind the Midweek Madness events is partially to get new players invested in the game, and that's why you have Standard-Legal cards as rewards. But think about this:
- You are deincentivizing players who already have large collections from playing in the Madness Queue, which results in longer queue times for those players and thus a worse player experience, which may discourage them from playing altogether
- If it feels bad for invested, veteran grinders to receive copies of cards we already have, how bad would that feel for a new player?
Make ICRs Duplicate Protected, and if you fear the influx of 40 gems will break the economy, expand the pool of ICRs to Historic if the player already has all the cards in Standard.
An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedThere are 222 Rares I have 0 copies of, but today my first ICR for the Midweek Madness event was an n-th (Where n>4) Dire-Strain Rampage.
Should the reward pool be limited to standard, there are 124 rares (Not counting mythics) that I'm still missing to complete a full playset.
And yet, you choose to be stingy. For shame, WotC. For shame. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedToday I played in the Midweek Madness event, and got two rares I already had a full playset of.
It could've stung more, at least none of the ICRs were Duplicate Mythics.
But ICRs should really be Duplicate Protected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kassapa#71305 commentedWith the staggering number of cards in arena, the ever increasing pace at which sets and "supplemental products" are added, and the Scrooge McDuck level of stinginess that the Arena Economy sports, it's inadmissible to have ICRs not be Dupe Protected.
Every time I receive a Duplicate, I'll endeavor to remind you it is only driving people away from the game. Happy New Year!
