I had a similar situation, sludge monster Liesa, opponent blocked with it on my next attack and Liesa went to the graveyard then immediately back to players hand.

Same thing happened when I triggered citizens crossbar on a card under hold for ransom to destroy kumono kakkazan I expected the crowbar to either not work or destroy target enchantment not destroy all permanents on the battlefield.

I just had a similar experience my opponent had a black/green deck and either cast or created a 3/3 creature/token creature I couldn’t inspect the creature to read its description I am new to magic and didn’t recognize it. I also couldn’t target it block it even with flying creatures or use an unsummon spell on it. It may have happened while I was reading a spell they had cast

I actually think this is how the ability should work Liesa, forgotten archangel text says, “ whenever another non-token creature you control dies, return it to its owners hand at the beginning of the next end step, if an opponents creature would die exile it instead.”
The way this reads to me Liesa should not not return artifacts or enchantments even if turned creatures.
I just had Liesa return a Mukotai soulripper to my opponents hand. As this is an artifact vehicle which has to be converted to a creature I think it’s a bug. Or the Liesa card needs clarification.
