Update on my previous post:
Challenging a friend from the friends list has a 100% chance to hit this issue. While doing a direct match (via the crossed swords ⚔️ icon) allows us to play versus each other.
In our case:
1. Both players must configure the ⚔️ menu the same way, same settings
2. Then insert each others nickname#number
3. Pick a deck and challenge each other almost at the same time. This method allowed me and my friend to reliably play 5 matches in a row.
But the issue is still there and should be fixed!!!
An error occurred while saving the comment Zefren#42673 commentedSame thing here:
1. challenge a friend
2. either my request times out after 60 seconds with the "Unable to submit deck" message, or theirs.
See latest log attached.I haven't seen any comment from the WotC on the subject..
I genuinely regret having spent money on this game when they don't even care enough to reply to upvoted issues.Zefren#42673 supported this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment Zefren#42673 commentedUpdate #1 on my case of black screen (after downloading 190Mb at first launch):
Not sure if this made any difference but I've updated Windows and installed latest NET Framework from Windows Updates. Then rebooted the PC and now MTG Arena opened up downloading 2.76GB of updates. The client version in the bottom left corner now says: 1.1200.0.3138 (3138.816494)An error occurred while saving the comment Zefren#42673 commentedBlack screen right after the latest 190Mb ZKR update. Logs:
After many attempts, I was able to challenge a friend of mine via "Challenge match" icon (crossed swords icon) with the following settings:
1. The selected deck must be set in "Direct match" format
2. Under the crossed swords icon, select
- Challenge Match
- deck type: 60 cards
- format: best of one
- coin flip
3. Put your friend's ID (e.g.: nickname#12345) and challenge each other roughly at the same time.
As of today, 7th Dec 2023, this method seems to be reliably working. At least on the PC/Windows version of the game.
Hope this helps
