This came up for me recently when my opponent cast a Sheoldred's Edict against my Orzhov planeswalker deck, obviously choosing the planeswalker mode. I responded with a Wandering Emperor, intending to -1 for a Samurai token and then sacrifice her, as I already had much more powerful planeswalkers on the field. With Edict on the stack, covering her, I could not use her ability, and so I was forced to let it resolve and sacrifice her without getting the token. That could have been a deciding factor in the game, as I needed to reduce my opponent's life total and win before milling out. (It was a very long and grindy game.)
