Explorer is no replacement though because of all the interesting JumpStart and old cards that aren't in Pioneer and never will be.
Pioneer-lite unfortunately just doesn't do it and probably won't even when it reaches parity with MTGO Pioneer, owing to the fact that with Alchemy the onus to make properly balanced standard cards is next to zero. Pioneer had a very short window where it was hype and unsolved, now it's just outdone by Historic. So far every game I've played in that queue has been against the type of players I left MTGO to avoid playing against!
I really don't get it. It took a while for people to come around on Historic, but you got it to the point where it was a sweet unique format. You even introduced 1v1 Commander via Historic Brawl, and it was all set up for these recent sets and all the new gold commanders...then you absolutely tanked it with horrendous rebalanced standard cards. The whole point of this format is that it represents cards as they were released - actual history, not revisionism. People like the former and nobody likes the latter.
edit: also it's not that Alchemy as a stand alone entity is a problem it's mixing the cards with Historic that is just terrible and depressing. You really should have kept Alchemy distinct and let it stand on its own, or even made it a separate product where you could really go all-in on the remixing aspect (for example: what about players who can upgrade or remix cards they own? Can't see that happening on arena but that's the sort of thing that might be sweet in a separate game).
I edited this post to be less harsh but really this decision is so aggravating and hard to understand.

This also affects me a reasonable amount. Arena is very poor at keeping the connection alive. It also may or may not cause some routers to start blocking incoming traffic for some reason, which appears as if we're disconnected (but the internet otherwise works fine).
It's also worth keeping a shortcut to cmd prompt and the ping ability (can just be a .bat file that says 'ping <ip address of your router>'. Then when the rope appears you can immediately run this and check whether you are still connected to your router.
Unfortunately a related issue is that when you see the 'Waiting for Server' screen, Arena loves to also crash completely if you alt-tab during this message...
Also if you're using a wired connection to your router, check that your cables aren't getting old. It can appear like you're dropping connection to game servers when in fact it's your cables flaking out. It's worth replacing them every 5-10 years.

Bump, still an issue.
Repro:
Demonstrate mostly easily versus the current Scute Swarm decks.Let opponent get a pile of triggers, tap all lands and and hit respond to all so you're 'F6d'. Watch both game clocks. Opponent won't lose any time on their clock, but you will lose 1-2 seconds per each of their triggers! Even though you cannot physically do anything quicker and you've auto passed all priority steps.
[Also note how ridiculous it is that when they have 40 scute swarm triggers you make us sit through all 40 of them and the game doesn't batch them into a single big trigger and just plop the token stack onto the board - just ask players IF and when they want to intercede in the trigger stack - if they don't, then handle all the triggers together].
This is abusable and it will cost people matches when the clock is tight.

This is still happening in the current version of the game. It's abusable and people are exploiting it to run down the clock when they aren't otherwise capable of actually winning the game. Or at least, maybe you'll win with 20 seconds remaining on turn 50 an hour and a half later, but they're counting on you conceding before that.
Previously, Resolve All quickly and efficiently ran through all the triggers. As of earlier this year, it slowed to a crawl when handling even rudimentary triggers. When players hit 'resolve all' scale the speed of the animations, effects, etc etc depending on how many triggers there are. And you can handle them all en masse as long as you go through and check in advance whether the triggers will actually cause any new triggers. A digital game shouldn't be MORE clunky than handling hundreds of triggers than paper but currently it is!

Bump for this. Never noticed before this update, however Arena is now pretty slow at resolving triggers when there's dozens of them on the stack. Too slow to be honest.
At any rate, when one or both players have hit 'resolve all' there's no way they should be losing clock for Arena's server latency.
I probably lost a few minutes in the game from the attached screenshot since I was trying to go wide versus 'Revenge of the Ravens', and every attack step generated a few dozen triggers *for my opponent*, but my clock was ticking down while Arena resolved them one-by-one.
I am sure that players are losing matches to this stuff, as it was, I might have ended up losing the next game to time but my opponent conceded to spare us both the agony.

Everyone should be really careful with downloading random .dll files (as in don't do it, only use official installers from trusted companies).
The black screen on start up does actually go away after a time (30secs - 1 minute) and you get into the game properly.
Maybe Arena's servers are overloaded or the path to them is congested which is causing the client to hang on loading while it waits.

This has been an issue for at least a month. We're beyond the point where this should be fixed.
Clearly the client has no problem reconnecting since we can hear the game sounds, but there is a bug with the loading process spawning a duplicate waiting screen after the game loads.
Wizards seem to like deleting threads reporting the issue but that doesn't actually fix the issue. Not a good look.
This is still an issue and it's making me sad.
When people attack all they expect to be able to exert as part of this process. Still you just fast forward to blocks and botch a combat and probably lose the match as a result of this. When attacking with all and exert creatures either auto exert those creatures and/or change the button such that it tells you they will or won't be exerted, or add a third button in this case to 'attack and exert all', or prompt for exerting each creature quickly when the user pressing attack with all. Many good ways to solve this, probably one I didn't mention...
