I need to be able to install all my software to my D: drive
Please make MTG Arena able to install to my D: drive. My C: drive is an SSD that is not large enough to hold my programs. My D: drive is plenty big. Most software that I install allows the user to install to a drive of their choice. Why doesn't yours?

Wow what an appalling design decision. It must be on purpose with three years of this error happening. Wonder how this generates revenue and not just ill will.

2021 and I'm having this problem. I love magic, but I can't magically free up space on a smaller ssd.

Even with fizbankovi#26092 solution, it won't work after every update. Because the installer takes the liberty to change the install directory when downloading an update as you can see in this log line :
"MSI (s) (80:9C) [15:48:24:700]: PROPERTY CHANGE: Modifying APPDIR property. Its current value is 'G:\Programmes\MTGA\MTGA'. Its new value: 'C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\MTGA'."
The only fix for now is having enough space in the C drive, or uninstalling and reinstalling the game after every update...

Take me to work, I'll write you a good launcher ... ready to work for $500 a month. And fire your programmers who don't know how to fix this problem.

+1 because this is just wrong.
As a professional dev I know for a fact this is not necessary and should be easily fixable.

thanks, fizbankovi#26092, if only the developers or Wizards of the Coast cared about their customers!
Doesn't inspire confidence in buying their products, when they continuously ignore these Quality control Issues.
Half a year after raising the bug, and they can't even be bothered to offer advice, or help. I guess they have enough customers, that they don't care about losing some through terrible customer service. -

Although I love the game I was forced to unistall it due to this issue. I tried installing it to D: but still it does not work. I'm going to unistall again if this is not fixed

Thank you fizbankovi. Your solution worked for me as well.
I would add the shortcut destination needs to be modified by changing the "Target" and "Start in" fields to D:\ from C:\ for the shortcut to work. This can be done by right-clicking on the shortcut, and selecting properties. Then modify the specified fields.

I found a solution:
I was able to fix it by simply cut/pasting the whole MTGA folder to D: then updating the registry entry to point the installation to the right place:
run regedit.exe find the path values under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Wizards of the Coast\MTGArena update to your folder in D:

I just recently got into Magic and just when I started liking the game I found out it ate up all the space on my C drive. Unacceptable. I only have work software on C and therefore only 30 GB free on my SSD in order to keep windows running smoothly.
I have instantly uninstalled the game because you can't run the operating system properly with only 1GB free space on the OS partition.
Shame cause the game seemed nice and I even bought some physical merch and activated codes for decks in the game. But oh well. I can't have any game install files in unknown locations without my permission and consent and I don't need my PC to brick up.
Thanks but no thanks.

there are 2 ways to solve this temporarily, before wizards fixes it.
1. download MTG Arena through Epic game store
2. use the [MKLINK /D] command to make the game installed in other disks
that means:
1st, install the game
2nd, cut the whole "Wizards of the Coast" folder and paste it to another disk like D:\, now there will be a D:\Wizards of the Coast
3rd, run cmd.exe as administrator
4th, run the following command:MKLINK /D "C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast" "D:\Wizards of the Coast"
this command will make the former folder a symbolic link for the later one
if success, there will be a "C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast <<===>> D:\Wizards of the Coast" line on the screen
now start the game, and you can see files downloading in disk D -

This is causing problems for me. My work software also must go on my C drive. MTG Arena is about to get cut as I'm out of room.
All my other games sit on my D drive.
A small SSD for windows and a larger older hard drive is a common configuration for budget gaming PCs. PLEASE LET ME PUT ALL OF MTGA ON THE D DRIVE. Or any drive I want for that matter.
It's frustrating and silly I cannot pick where my files install.

This issue is NOT at all acceptable. You're forcing your users to install files on a drive we explicitly direct your installer NOT to use. This is basic level programming type stuff. I don't even understand why you front by showing the "option" to install to a different folder.
Fix your installer!
