Unbalanced Matchmaking Creating Poor Gamin Experience
The matchmaking in this game has changed dramatically only after about a week of playing. I am still only Silver in Limited and have no Rank in Constructed, yet all I am facing in the General Play queue is deck after deck of full-Mythic-set meta decks. I just recently lost 8 matches in a row, switching between multiple decks.
This is not fun.
I do not have a stable collection yet, and my decks are mostly just piles of cards I found interesting. I don't have the ability to compete with these decks, so why am I facing them all of a sudden? Why is there such a sudden upsurge of difficulty in opponents if I'm not being targeted by some form of skill-based matchmaking?
I was winning/losing against decks of a SIMILAR power level to mine for the first week or so of playing, and that never felt bad. I could win or lose and still feel like I was learning, or that my plays made a difference. Now I go 6-8 matches in a row without even coming close to winning, facing decks with 0 interaction beyond multiple 4-sets of board-wipes.
Is this punishment for not spending money? Why does the casual "Play" queue even HAVE skill-based matchmaking - and thoroughly broken matchmaking at that? Why would I spend money and net-deck if I'm just going to keep facing worse and worse decks as a result?
I don't know if this is your way of getting new players to feel bad about losing and spend money, but it's having the opposite effect on me. I don't want to spend money on something that is so blatantly trying to manipulate me.
If you're going to force players into wildly unbalanced SBMM, have a mode where people just play each other with pre-constructed decks like last week's FNM. Then I don't have to deal with players whose skill level is absurdly higher than mine AND who overspend into your ridiculous monetization.
I shouldn't lose 6 times in a row and then STILL face nothing but Rogues, Ultimatum, Yorion, etc. Either SBMM me or don't. Don't FORCE me to fight people who are better/more susceptible to spending than me.
I'm not going to spend money on something that's actively trying to make me feel like ****.

Unfortunately unless you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars, MTG Arena is a P2W type game. You will constantly lose matches (possibly hundreds) unless you spend a large chunk of change to build one of the decks that no doubt you have come across.

I agree with this 100%
I am new to MTG:Arena, but not new to MTG. So I am still building a card collection and working on my decks. However, I am being matched, consistently, against people who have obviously been spending tons of money and time perfecting their Tier 1 decks.
If this is the business strategy to get me to spend money, I won't do it. Matchmaking should be competitive, not a ROFLSTOMP. I can't imagine that it's any fun for the guys who are absolutely destroying me in these matches, either. I'm sure they want to play these beautifully constructed decks against players of similar quality.
Anymore, when I see that the other player has a deck full of rare/mythics, I just concede. It's not worth my time or effort to even try.

I'm a brand new player that just earned the first color decks. I have really no new cards. I just played 30+ games in a row all loses. Having that relentless of a chain of losses because I have no cards to play with makes me never want to play this again. It's assinine that Wizards Arena doesn't have player matching. I'm never gonna learn this game if the entry for new players is so steep. I'll just go find something that's actually FUN to do.
