I cast Wildfire Howl and offer the gift inorder to be able to target one of their 2/3 creatures do that it would also die. I was never given an option to target one of their creatures for the extra 1 damage that the gifted version is supposed to do. They respond by casting Overprotect to give their 3/2 hexproof and +3/+3 until end of turn. They then draw their card from Wildfire Howl's gift, then Wildfire Howl deals 2 damage to each creature. Their 1/1 token died, their 3/2 turned 5/4 lived (obviously), and both their 2/3 creatures lived, because I was never given the option to target one for the 1 extra damage, despite my opponent received the gifted card.
