Arena starts a new game instead of rejoining the existing game after very short disconnect.
All of a sudden, during a draft game, Arena took me to the reconnect screen.
The game reconnected after a few seconds, maybe 5 seconds or so, and returned me to the Draft screen.
I assumed my game should still exist, since I had been disconnected for such a short time. If the game no longer existed, that would also be a bug, as the game is ending too soon after a disconnect.
On the Draft screen, I pressed "Play" as soon as possible to reconnect to my game.
Instead of reconnecting, a new game started. After the second game ended, I checked the Draft screen, and the first game had counted as a loss.
Unfortunately, I didn’t check whether the loss had already been recorded by the time I pressed "Play" while attempting to reconnect.
I also didn’t have the opportunity to test restarting the client instead of pressing "Play" after the disconnect. I suspect I might have been able to rejoin the game if I had done so.
Suggested solutions, depending on the root cause:
1) The server shouldn’t allow the start of a new game if an existing game is still active.
2) If the problem was a server crash that caused my disconnect, that shouldn’t be counted as a game loss.
3) Investigate why, in certain situations, the game ends too soon without giving the player time to reconnect.
Attached are the logs for today’s play session. They should only include my draft and the two draft games, since that’s all I played today.
You might be able to reproduce the problem by taking your network cable out for a couple of seconds, and then plugging it back in during a draft game.
