Neriv, Crackling Vanguard is not functioning correctly
I am playing arena on steam, on PC.
Neriv, Crackling Vanguard reads that you may play any cards exiled by their ability “during any turn you attacked with a commander.” I have a brawl deck with them as the commander, but I consistently find that if Neriv dies during that attack, those cards are not playable.
As far as I am aware, that clause regarding the cards’ playability should be in effect even if Neriv is dead, as long as Neriv attacked that turn—similar to other permanents that impulse draw and define when those cards may be played, which remains the case whether or not the permanents remain in play. Is this a bug in the client? Not sure if anything else tracks if a commander attacked on a given turn, so maybe that’s an outlier that isn’t managed properly by the client?
to clarify what I’m visually seeing, here’s an example: Neriv attacks with two unique names of tokens in play, trigger resolves and I see the top two cards of my library exiled like with any other impulse draw effect (if one or more is an instant speed card I can play it at this point). Opponent blocks and kills Neriv, and immediately upon Neriv going to the graveyard the two cards vanish into the little exile wormhole. On future turns, I can see these same cards (and more, probably) available to play again when I attack with Neriv. As long as Neriv survives the attack, I can only then play the sorcery speed cards.
