Digital only cards? No thanks
First, let me just say that I love magic. I have played this game for decades, and invested significant portions of my life to supporting magic - from being an early ambassador of the game, getting a nightmare t-shirt, to creating apps and organizing events to promote it.
As an invested Magic player who sometimes dabbles in Arena, I can say that I would like an overview of how the digital only cards won't start to make their way into "Arena standard", or how you plan to continue to support paper magic despite this change.
I personally have no interest in playing with cards online that I cannot actually get in paper to play with my friends without a computer. That's not Magic: The Gathering.
It actually makes me question my support to see things like this that shape the game into something more and more like "just any other online game".
To me, the thing that makes magic great is its ability to bring people together. To actually gather. This is where I have seen the game change people's lives for the better, and bring people joy and true connection.
Time will tell, I guess, and maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I can't see how this is good for paper magic, or good for people's lives.
I would very much like to state my opposition to this change, until I hear an coherent explanation of how this fits into the larger plan to keep paper Magic a strong and healthy in-person game.
If Arena is going to become a completely separate "Magic Branded Experience", that's fine, but what are you doing to protect and enrich Magic's rich, in-person legacy?
