Opponent attacked Ng with creatures seemed aware of this bug, I had reacted with instant to last attack by untapping and defending, next time my opponent allowed the timer to expire which denied me the ability to play an instant to untap and block - I presume because games checked state and saw there were no viable defenders despite me being able to exile and return my tapped creature in order to block
