Creatures smashing into each other
(This isn't a suggestion to change the rules of Magic, just how it's being animated visually on mtga.)
Right now it always shows attackers smashing into blockers (and into the defending player's face).
It'd look cool and be easier to understand if…
• if only one of the creatures can deal damage due to first or double strike, it is the one that is smashing. Otherwise,
• the blocker should smash into the attacking creature (opposite of what's happening now)
• unblocked creatures should smash into the defending player (or planeswalker or battle), just as it is now
In other words, I'd send my attackers in but then your blockers rush ahead to take them down!
Like if I have a Thalia and a bear and a mammoth that are attacking your Sorin planeswalker and you have two skeletons. You block the Thalia with one and the bear with another. My Thalia with first strike would smash into your skeleton, killing it, but then your skeleton would smash into my bear! And then the mammoth would smash into Sorin! Awesome! Logical!
But how the game looks now is confusing: Thalia and the bear are both smashing into skeletons. But they wanted to attack the Sorin! So why would they rush towards skeletons instead…?! Confusing.
The simple truth is that attacking creatures can go after players, planeswalkers, and battles. And blocking creatures can go after attacking creatures. That simple truth is completely obscured and lost by how Arena makes it looks like it's the attackers who are making all the decisions.
