Timing and Trigger Issue
My issue is with a permanent's trigger ability when a spell is cast. Let's say that an opponent casts a spell so that a trigger will be activated. If I successfully counter that spell, it should be as if the spell were never cast, therefore no trigger should be activated. However, that is not the case. It seems that the act of tapping mana to cast a spell, whether the spell is successfully cast or not causes the trigger to happen. Is this a bug?
Another similar topic. If a spell is cast which has an additional component of sacrificing a target creature, should the opponent not have the opportunity to respond by eliminating the target creature before it is sacrificed? Just a thought.

Not a bug, no, just you not understanding the basics of Magic game play. In order to even get to respond, the spell has to already been successfully cast. That's an obsolete term by the way. Countering a spell does not undo the casting, it just makes the spell not do anything.
If you buy a car, and it gets stolen, did you not buy a car? If you cast a spell, and it gets countered, did you not cast a spell?
If a sacrifice is a cost of the spell, then no, you do not get to respond. The sacrifice is gone long before you get priority to do anything in response. It's the same issue with tapping a creature that is being tapped for a cost: you can't. It's already a done deed. You can't respond to someone paying costs. You can only respond to what they bought.
