Barriers to Play
Visual elements of the UI are not optimal for reading the card text; this is frustrating to new players who need to be able to read the cards they are unfamiliar with, and is prohibitive to a number of people with difficulty reading (visual acuity issues, processing issues etc).
Specifically:
Text size should be able to be adjusted more. A preset for size in gameplay options may be helpful and/or a pinch & zoom feature.
Cards are often positioned to be overlapping, making a portion of the text covered. In such situations, trying to single out an individual card for reading is exceedingly difficult. Examples: any card that has an effect on a specific permanent is often under that card; reviewing cards for selection from a subset of cards is presented as a fan of cards with a slider. For people with reading barriers, this is a challenge. For people with dexterity challenges, it's even more difficult to select individual cards for review.
These accessibility issues are prohibitive for populations with a variety of physical or mental barriers, who otherwise would enjoy and support the game. They are also exacerbated by the current Timer mechanism; I understand the desire to prevent stalling and deliberate time wasting, but for folks who legitimately are struggling to read cards, it's punitive and demoralizing. Even those without specific challenges can find the timers problematic when the cards an opponent is using are complex and unfamiliar - there can be a lot to read, and losing because you weren't given time to read and respond is crushingly unfun. Suggest potentially having options regarding timers: one for the contingent who are experienced enough to want/enjoy fast-paced play with limited pauses (fairly aggressive timeouts), and one for those who (for whatever reason) want to have more time to review cards and choose their play. Just match us against people with similar wants/needs for speed of play.
