BUG: GPU Maxes out if something else overlays MTGA or is not in fullscreen
This appears to be a technical problem of MTGA, but you don't have a Category for that (afaik), so I want to express the "Product Suggestion" of solving this problem.
I'm on a PC (Win10, specs can be provided), using two (differently sized) monitors .
My GPU is a bit older and creates a weird sound when it get's into the high percent, which is how I noticed this:
When the MTGA task is in focus, it uses about 20-30% GPU (it's updating as I write this, so this value may vary during play,) but the moment I tab out of it, it maxes my GPU out (i.e. it's GPU Usage goes up to 90%+).
Now for the weird thing: If I have something else on fullscreen on the other monitor, this behaviour changes:
While I hold ALT+TAB it still hits that 90%+ GPU usage, but the moment I drop the ALT+TAB, it goes back to normal. (Same for hitting the windows-key and having that menu open, or hitting WIN+W for the game bar or whatever it is called.)
It can be a YouTube video in fullscreen, or just F11 on firefox, but just being maximized isn't enough, it has to be full screen.
Additionally, if I have MTGA on my main screen, and firefox full screened on the other one, and I open the windows explorer (the file management, not the browser), everything is fine, unless I drag the explorer window so that it overlaps into the main screen displaying MTGA.
(There seems to be a boundary issue, too, though, because and non-minimized window that is maximized on the secondary monitor also triggers this behaviour. But that could be windows based, and solving this issue would also cover that one, for sure.)
So, my guess is that for some reason MTGA has a problem with something being displayed on top of it, but I can not even guess as to how or why.
So, pro forma:
1. Steps to reproduce:
- Have a way of tracking GPU-Usage running on the secondary screen
- Have two screens and Win10
- Open MTGA on one screen and f.e. firefox maximized but not fullscreen on the other
- click into the MTGA task and check GPU Usage
- tab into firefox and check GPU.
This should be higher
- now hit F11 in firefox and check GPU again
It should be back to normal
- while looking at the GPU Usage, hit and hold ALT+TAB and see it skyrocket again.
2.: PC with Win10 Home.
Main Screen Resolution: 1920x1080
Secondary Screen Resolution: 1366x768
3.: If anything overlays MTGA, and/or there isn't something full screen on the secondary monitor, MTGA uses unreasonable amounts of GPU, if it is not in focus.
4.: I expect the GPU Usage to be dependent on what MTGA shows at the moment (and settings, I guess), and agnostic about what the rest of my system is doing at any given moment. I do not expect it to suddenly cook my GPU because I change the focused window.
5.: I couldn't record anything from the system, because anything recording is per definition overlaying MTGA, which means it is spiking the GPU. I attached two screenshots. ("Sorry, we couldn't submit your request." I'll try it without attachments, I guess.)
6.: Sadly, no.
