card styles and duplicate protection

today Outlaws of Thunder Junction was released and I purchased card styles for the fast land duals.
Then I found out that I cannot apply them to Concealed Courtyard Spirebluff Canal Blooming Marsh inspiring Vantage Botanical Sanctum from the Edition Kaladesh.
(I already had crafted a playset of all these cards)
Should everyone really craft the same cards again from edition Outlaws of Thunder Junction in order to be able to use those new card styles ?
Is this a bug or "works as designed" ?
Actually it does not make much sense to purchase new card styles, if they cannot be applied to older versions (editions) of the same card....
I am surprised as also the shock duals have gotten new card styles several times with the release of new sets but I was always able to use them even if the edition did not match. I never had to craft the cards again.
The same happened to me recently when I purchased a card style for "omniscience".
I had crafted the card 4x in edition M19 and cannot apply the card style as the edition symbol of the card style does not match M19.
Nobody wants to spend tons of rare and mythic wild cards to craft playsets of all the cards again only to be able to apply a new card style.
by the way I would expect not to even get more of the fast land duals when I open Outlaws of Thunder Junction boosters because of duplicate protection...so it is odd that I have to craft them to use the new card styles.
In the end the conclussion can only be to not buy any card styles anymore as you probably have to craft duplicates of cards.

This is unintuitive and misleading. I already own 4 copies of Fabled Passage from ELD. I purchased the card style for Bloomburrow but can't equip it bc I don't have that printing. I also can't open copies of that card naturally bc of duplicate protection. I would have to spend wild cards to use it. Messed up and a total waste of my money.

I own 3 different cardstyles for the card "watery grave". All of them can be applied but the expansion symbol on two of them (cosmic + "C") is NOT the same as the one on the original card. (Guilds of Ravnica)
based on that experience I bought the card styles for the fast dual lands when outlaws of thunder junction was released.
another example:
I own 4 copies of fabled passage from eldraine and 4 copies from M21 + the card style for M21.
8 copies of technically the same card with the same artwork.
If I add the eldraine version to a deck and click apply styles it will use the card style for M21 but still has the expansion eldraine symbol. (but the expansion symbol of the card style is not the same as the card)So I suppose in some cases the advertised card style only has to match the artwork of the original card, not the specific set + symbol ?
But for the cosmic + "C" card styles for the shock duals it would be hard to guess which specific card from which set you have to own if there would have been more than one of the original card in existence in Arena (currently there exist only the Ravnica set shock duals in Arena), as the set symbol of these CARD STYLES where not used for any specific cards from specific sets in Arena.according to the following information I will not receive any fast land duals from outlaws of thunder junction when opening boosters as I already own playsets of all these cards from kaladesh set, which means I have to craft copy 5-8 if I want to use the new card styles..so you are duplicate protected but then it gets even more expensive because you have to use many rare wildcards :
https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/mtg-arena/mtg-arena-release-notes-wilds-of-eldraine :
Changes to Duplicate Protection
Long story short: Starting with Wilds of Eldraine, duplicate protection for rare and mythic rare "reprints" (existing cards reappearing in a newer set) will apply regardless of the artwork; if you have four copies of a card in your collection, any additional versions will be duplicate protected as a reprint.

Card styles have always been not just for a specific card, but for a specific card from a specific set. You can always tell which set it is from the set symbol on the card.
You do not get "duplicate protection" for having 4 copies of an older version of a card when it comes out in a new set because that is a new card.

Buying something in the store that is advertised and then finding out you cannot use it does not feel good.
Like you just lost your gold/gems in a scam...
