counter spell not countering anything, even if the game makes you target the spell you want to counter
Opponent plays a single spell. You cast a counterspell. Game asks you to choose a target for your counterspell. You choose the spell your opponent casts. Game asks you to confirm and you do and the game accepts it. THEN THE GAME PUTS YOUR COUNTERSPELL INTO YOUR GRAVEYARD WITHOUT COUNTERING ANYTHING.
I'm on PC.
I've just described the actual results. The game taps your mana and puts your counterspell in the graveyard for no reason. This has happened more than once with multiple counterspells on multiple different cards that CAN BE COUNTERED.
I just expect counterspells to work.
The only workaround I found was to stop playing MTGArena.

When the game asks you to confirm the targeting of a counterspell it's trying to tell you that the spell can't be countered. There are many possible reasons that it can't be countered. Off the top of my head there's using a Cavern of Souls 2nd ability to cast a creature of the chosen type, using a Delighted Halfing's 2nd ability to cast a legendary, or a Lier, Disciple of the Drowned simply being on the battlefield making all spells uncounterable.
