Elenda, Saint of Dusk: Lifelink & Life Total Interaction Bug
Hello,
I believe there is a strange "order of operations" bug going on with Elenda, Saint of Dusk. My opponent had 25 life, an empty board except for lands and Elenda, Saint of Dusk as a 5/5 with lifelink, menace, and hexproof from instants. I was attacking with Lumbering Worldwagon as a 9/4 with trample and haste from Cactusfolk Sureshot.
My opponent decided to block Lumbering Worldwagon(9/4, Trample) with Elenda (5/5, lifelink).. My expectation of combat was that both Elenda and Worldwagon would die and opponent would have 26 health at the end of combat. When combat was over, Worldwagon was dead, but Elenda was still alive, as a 10/1(10) with life total of 30.
From past recollection, health would increase from lifelink as combat ends. I wouldn't think that lifelink from combat damage is supposed to trigger before combat damage is assigned causing Elenda's ability to trigger and make her a 10/10.

You misunderstand lifelink. It happens IMMIDEATELY with the damage being dealt, it doesn't even go on the stack. The life is gained right away, before even state based actions are checked. And that is the reason, why Elenda survived: the life was gained and Elenda grew before the game checked for lethal damage.
